The meeting of the Southern California Chapter Friends of Mineralogy was called to order by newly-installed President Bob Reynolds at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum. Meeting minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Bob Housley reports that we have a total of $2,160.20 in the bank.
Successful projects for 1999 included completion of educational rock kits, well-attended field trips, and a growing interest in the Werner Lieber Photo Contest.
Dan McHugh has volunteered to start a networking project with local colleges, geological societies, etc. in order to increase membership in SCFM.
Tony Kampf will be liaison between SCFM and MSSC re: web site integration.
A new set of rock kits will be started soon, but a new museum affiliation needs to be established first.
We will be working with John Clinkenbeard, California Department of Conservation, regarding incorporating SCFM's Locality Records into the State of California's "Minerals of California" publication.
SCFM will be working with the Desert Symposium regarding a donation for publication of a book to possibly include Mineralogy of the Yellowpine District, Goodsprings, Nevada by Jack Kepper; Micromineral Photography by John Jenkins; and other articles and photos by leading experts in the field of mineralogy. The Mineral Collectors Workshop will be held at the Riverside Municipal Museum on Saturday, March 18th, with a field trip to follow. See attached brochure for details. SCFM will have a meeting during the lunch hour - please be there
