The Mineral Collectors Workshop was very successful, attracting 60 attendees, with five lectures, and a field trip to nearby localities for collecting.
The short meeting was adjourned.
MINUTES January 20, 2001
The meeting of the Southern California Chapter Friends of Mineralogy was called to order by President Bob Reynolds at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum. The Treasurer reports that we have $1,508.61 in the bank account.
An important item of discussion centered around insurance for Board members, officers, and field trip attendees. Tony Kampf and Dorothy Ettensohn, as employees of the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, have been advised by Museum officials that they would have to give up their Board positions because of the lack of proper insurance. A letter to the National F.M. is being drafted regarding this situation. New member, Bob Verish, and Gene Reynolds were nominated, moved, and seconded as new Board members to replace Tony and Dorothy. SCFM officers were nominated, moved, and seconded with Bob Reynolds, President; Garth Bricker, Vice President; Bob Housley, Treasurer; and Mary Aruta, Secretary/Newsletter Editor.
Also discussed was the Riverside Mineral Inventory. The pegmatites and gold inventory have been completed with a list compiled that needs to be field checked. Information needs to be posted to the web page and submitted to John Clinkenbeard (see enclosed flyer) for the updated Minerals of California publication. Next county to be worked on will most likely be San Diego. Please check our web page and if you have anything to input as far as new localities for technical information only, not collecting, please respond. Please include your e-mail address with your responses.
The Werner Lieber Photo Contest posters are on the road again! Some of them are being sent back east to Virginia Tech Dept. of Geological Science for display, and others are currently residing in Barstow, on display at the Desert Discovery Center. Time to put the 2000 photos in poster form!
On March 24th and 25th, SCFM will be hosting the Mineral Collectors Workshop at the Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center. The address of the Cultural Center is 7621 Granite Hill Drive, Riverside, CA. Directions: From the 60 Freeway (east) exit on Pyrite Avenue, go north under freeway to 1st signal, turn right, and continue east on Granite Hill to the Center. We will have a full slate of lectures and slide shows on Saturday, and a field trip on Sunday.
