MARCH 2001 MEETING MINUTES AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Submitted by Mary Aruta, Secretary
MINUTES March 24, 2001
The meeting of the Southern California Chapter Friends of Mineralogy was called to order by President Bob Reynolds at the Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center at the Mineral Collectors Workshop.
The Mineral Collectors Workshop was very successful, attracting 40 attendees, with lectures, and a field trip to nearby localities for collecting.
We still need to get all our information field-checked regarding the Riverside County localities. Information needs to be posted to the web page and submitted to John Clinkenbeard (see enclosed flyer) for the updated Minerals of California publication. Next county to be worked on will most likely be San Diego. Please check our web page and if you have anything to input as far as new localities for technical information only, not collecting, please respond. Please include your e-mail address with your responses.
The Werner Lieber Photo Contest posters are on display in various museums around the country - how about photos of arid lands for new posters?
We would like some input as to future meetings and field trips - how about the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, or museums in Lone Pine, Bishop, and Barstow? Give us your input.
We will have our next meeting on Saturday, June 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Shoshone Museum in southern Death Valley. Directions - gas up at Barstow, take Interstate 15 east to Baker, then go north on Highway 127 to the Shoshone Museum. After the meeting, we plan to examine abandoned mine dumps for specimens and collect nearby opal.
PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES: $10/YEARLY
